Windsurfing at Petters

My last day of summer vacation I finally got do do some windsurfing.

Skeet and cajak

My dear neighbour Daniel takes me out on even more adventures. Tuesday we ment to the woods and did some skeet (lerduvor) shooting. It was my first time. It was really hard.
I got 25 shots and I was exhausted after that.

On Wednesday Daniel and I went cayaking with Friluftsfrämjandet on the lake Vänern. We rented cayaks and started in Vänersborg and paddled to Ursand. Quite nice little ride.

Kuau delivered some big waves. The smallest sets were mast high!
We had 7 swimmers due to broken gear and light winds!

I went out and caught a couple of big ones. I do have respect for the amount of water in the wave, so I sailed quite safe.

After the grand day we sat on the log with some beer and admired the sunset and the sets rolling in..

Wednesday we had a SUP and surfsession at Kanaha. No wind and glassy waves.

Only two days left in paradise...

A big swell

After a short run in the morning from Paia to Kuau to looka at the swell I decided that Kuau would be a good spot for the day.
As I came back Russ was on his way out and the wind was quite light.
The waves were mast and a half. It was big. The wave was closing out and the wave was not really ridable.

Oh yes. He caught a wave in the end! A nice and big one:-)

Most of the sailors in Maui went to Kanaha. Solid mast high sets. It was really crowded with between 5-10 people on each wave, mixed kiters and windsurfers.
After 16.00 there were a snaller crowd and the waves got a lot cleaner. An epic day in Kanaha:-)

I had a issue with a kiter, though. I got a masthigh wave, and being the most upwind, I started to ride it. In the end of the wave it started to break in a topturn and I was on top off the lip looking down were there is a kite below and scary lines. In a fraction of a second I started to scream to the kiter as I just went for the jump down. He just got the time to move the kite. And he cheered at me.
I really don't mind the people on the kites. It's the lines that I fear. Picture being washed in a masthigh wave with all theese lines being tumbled all around you. What a horrid thought!

Good day with nice and glassy waves in Kanaha. The wind was a bit on and off though. In the start of the day I did quite a lot of swimming, as did Ola I heard:-)

The wind was superstrong and the swell was relativly small. We were on our way to Kuau-Mart for some lunch when we met Tracy who suggested we do a downwind dash.

At 1pm we left for Kuau. I rigged my new 3.5 Superfreak and tryed it out. I felt a bit underpowered so I went in and rigged 4.0. As everybody went out the wind started. All eight of us were overpowered all the way to Kanaha:-)

It was a nice ride. And now I have sailed in Sprecks and Camp one:-)

Crappy weather and loads of wind....

11 days of windsurfing without stop....20 days of windsurfing in total...
North shore has had some rainy days and the wind has been on for 24h which is unusual for Maui this time of year.

I have bought a new 3.5 Superfreak. I haven't used it yet, though.
I tried a new Starboard custom around 50l with tree fins. I decided not to buy it...

Lesson of the day:
The oldest lava flow exposed on the east Maui volcano is about 1.1 million years old. Scientist believe that East Maui volcano (Haleakala) probably began it's growth about 2 million years ago.

Aerials

I had the best day of windsurfing ever yesterday. I had a total of 5h divided in two sessions.
The biggest waves were mast high. The wind was on and off so a lot off struggeling...
I was on 55l board and 4.0 sail.
Today I felt I got the thing with smacking the lip on big waves. I even tried some aerials on the biggies. Some good, most heavy duty washingmashine:-)

I have had 7 days windsurfing in a row, so today I had a day off. The swedes were out and the wind was onshore and the waves were dumping all at once.

Lesson of the day:
Maui is the second largest Hawaiian island.
